The Replacements - “Bastards of Young” (Live, 1986)
Sounding unusually tight, featuring the late, great, Smokin’ (and Drinkin’) Bob Stinson.
Still one of my favorite verses from a rock song:
The ones who love us best are the ones we’ll lay to rest,
And visit their graves on holidays at best.
The ones who love us least are the ones we’ll die to please.
If it’s any consolation, I don’t begin to understand them.
Oh god yes. When they were tight, they were great. And when they were smashed out of their heads, barely able to play… they were still great. (Remembering them at Irving Plaza, New York, ‘85 or ‘86.)
